Is it really 10%?

July 16, 2016

So you got a raise of say 10% and you are roaming around and telling everyone. But is it really a 10% percent raise. You have to count for inflation too. So as you have gotten a raise, the price of other commodities and daily necessities have also increased by the rate of inflation. Considering the current rate of inflation as 8%, you are actually getting a raise of 2%. Which is not at all great. Rarely we negotiate our raise and just accept whatever our company feels is right. We do not ask for a better rate because we have this fear lingering in the back of our mind about asking for a raise. we feel that we might lose our job if we ask for a raise. But not asking for a raise have greater consequences. It means you are staying in a job which is paying you less than you deserve.
