Primary Education in Rural India: What Needs to be Changed

March 31, 2015

Primary education in rural India is mostly through Government schools, which are completely not up to the task.

So we went to this school in Vellore to teach maths. Now the problem is we know only Hindi and English and the students know only Tamil. So what can be done so that the students can learn without having this language barrier?

So I get this idea, which is slightly inspired by the FFCS system in VIT. Rather than having classes and standards with students where we teach them everything, we can have classes based on subjects. For example, maths class will have all the diagrams, toys, illustrations which will help the students learn maths by themselves.

We, teachers, need not do much then, just ask the question and admire their creativity in solving the problem.
